This could well be the last weekend of Group racing in Australia for the season given the cancellation of the Queensland Winter Carnival and the uncertainty of the times. Let's see if we can pick a winner.

It is a smallish field but an interesting race that sees last year's winner Avilius looking to be on track for a good performance. He is obviously one of the main chances and should be reaching his peak about now. He was actually a little outside of past winners with his victory and we see that many in recent times have had a much lower DI. In fact, five have had a DI between about 1.10 and 1.59. Mugatoo and Verry Elleegant fit nicely in this range, and both are strong chances running well at their last start. Oddly we have seen three with a DI of 3.00 and quite remarkably these were the only locally bred winners in the last decade. I would probably be surprised though if the locals finished in the placings this year.

In summary, I am fairly confident that the winner will come from Avilius, Mugaloo or Verry Elleegant. If you want to throw some in for value, Southern France and Mirage Dancer might improve.
