On a personal note, I love staying races, and what better example than the Sydney Cup. Even more than the Melbourne Cup, the Sydney Cup over recent years is more of a race of the traditional staying types, and recent winners include a fair share of imported stayers that have taken their time to acclimatize to local conditions. In fact, the last locally bred winner was Niwot, a son of the great UK champion Galileo's moderate performance locally.

Who will win this year? Past races indicate that this year's winner will come from a fairly small range of dosages. We have seen winners with a DI of around 0.30, 0.90, 1.20, 1.50, and between 2.00 and 2.25. Plenty this year fit within this range but the two standouts look to be the 2019 winner, Shraaoh and Realm Of Flowers. Realm Of Flowers looks to be exceptionally well weighted and her performance last start was exceptional. I expect her to be right in the finish.
