The Newmarket is one of the great sprint races, but I am not sure that the quality of winners has really reflected this in recent years. Dual winner Redkirk Warrior was a good horse, but maybe not our greatest, and again, while Sunlight is a good horse, she is not up with the great sprinters. Similarly The Quarterback and Brazen Beau are not necessarily names that will come to mind in years to come when we discuss Australia's best.

Dosages of past winners probably reflect this a little in my view. We have seen seven of the last ten winners with a DI above 4.20 with the other three being between 2.00 and 2.50. While we had a good win with Gytrash last start, this does not look the ideal race for him and I cannot really see him repeating that result. Oddly it is Banquo again at any old odds that comes up the best suited in the race. I hope he can continue our run of high priced winners. The other main chances seem to be Libertini, Bivouac and Exceedance, although Trope and Gytrash probably aren't without a chance.
