Despite the small field this shapes as a high quality affair. Verry Elleegant could not have been more impressive in her return to racing this season, and she may well be the best horse racing in Australia at present. We cannot forget the quality of last year's winner though and even though he had a relatively low key return to racing, he ran home well first up.

Dosages of past winners of course are heavily impacted by three time winner Winx whose DI of 2.09 had us backing heavily on Avilius repeating a win in this range last year, and leads us to think that he might repeat the dose. The highest DI this year in the small field is Dreamforce at 2.23 which is quite odd for a 1600m race. Apart from Avilius and Winx, past winners under this have been in the ranges of 1.67 or between 0.61 and 0.81. This sees Kolding as a real contender in the race, and honestly it would come as no surprise in terms of dosage to see any of these win. For sentimental reasons I am going for Avilius but it shapes as a great race and we will get to see just where some of these stand for the major Spring races.
