I must admit that I find this one a little of an odd race. It is not really a traditional Melbourne Cup lead up but then again it has been part of a lot of Spring campaigns for good horses. The history of it also is different, starting as the Glenroy Stakes in 1948 when won by Phoibos. The year after it was changed to the Feehan and in its early days it was won by Chiquita and Winfreux. It was not held in 1960 or 1966. Dual winners in recent years have been The Cleaner, Whobegotyou and Lad Of The Manor. The only three time winner was Shorengro in the late 60's who rather oddly never won another stakes race.

As we might suspect we have a pretty wide range of types winning the race which often reflects in my opinion, a lack of true quality in the race. Eight of the last eleven winners have had a DI under 2.00 suggesting that stayers play a big role in the race. Of these, I think that Sircconi looks the best chance but Humidor and Harbour Views can't be totally discounted.. We have winners around 2.50 and here we find Exasperate who I think probably looks the best suited at good odds. We have a couple of winners around 2.50 making Surprise Baby a good chance. The other winner was at 4.71 so there is probably nothing in the small field that looks right.

The two best chances look to be Sircconi and Surprise Baby but the two stayers resuming and Exasperate might put the value in the multiples.
