Pedigree of the Day 25 August Grauman

Race 1 at Gosford today sees the debut of Grauman.  He is by Aussie Rules out of the Falbrav mare, Takali.  Aussie Rules is a son of Danehill who shuttled to Australia for four seasons to stand at Coolmore.  His results, it is fair to say, have not been outstanding, with only one stakes winner to date and that being Hard Ball Get in WA.  Aussie Rules was himself a multiple Group 1 winner with successes in the French 2000 Guineas and the Shadwell Mile in the US.  Interestingly for many breeders, Aussie Rules has a tail female line that traces to the blue hen mare, Mumtaz Mahal.

The dam of Grauman is a lightly raced Falbrav mare called Takali.  Falbrav was a son of Fairy King who was also a multiple Group 1 winner who shuttled to Australia for a relatively short time.  Takali most importantly is out of a mare called Cosima's Dream who was a full sister to that wonderful racehorse and sire, General Nediym.  The General hails from a pretty special female line that includes the likes of Horlicks, Brew, Military Plume and Interstellar to name a few.

Grauman has a pedigree that features four lines of Northern Dancer as well as duplications of Sir Ivor, Natalma and Ribot.  It appears again that although relatively heavily inbred, to have no particulat focus to the mating.  In terms of dosage we see that Grauman has a profile that reads [0.65/2.71] [5-7-14-0-0].  Considering that stamina lines were a critical factor in the successful family members, including the speedy General Nediym, again it would seem that the mating that produced Grauman has again missed the mark.  Nevertheless, it is great to see the wonderful family making an appearance on Australian tracks, even if it is unlikely that Grauman will reach any great heights as a racehorse.
