Pedigree of the day 18 August All Emotion

Today’s pedigree is at Narromine where we see a first starter called All Emotion.  The 4yo mare is by Foxhound out of the Ms Foley.  Foxhound was a short lived shuttle stallion by Danzig out of Lassie Dear making him a half brother to Wolfhound, and also to Weekend Surprise, the dam of AP Indy.  Her dam Ms Foley is by Waterford Road, a very tough racehorse who is a full brother to Blackfriars and Manton.  Ms Foley started only twice, and this is only her second named foal.  In turn, her dam is the NZ bred, Quarrel by Military Plume who was a winner at 1400m.  She produced three winners from 1000m to 1600m.  It isn’t until we get back to the 4th dam that we start to notice something special about the family.  Monde by GB stallion, Monitor a son of Worden II who was a half brother to Wilkes, produced 10 winners including stakes winners Brutus and Demon Queen.  However, if we trace this line even further, we see illustrious mares like Pretty Polly and Sister Sarah who are among the best mares in the studbook.

In terms of pedigree, we see that All Emotion features a close 2x4 cross of Danzig as well as crosses of Sir Gaylord, Natalma and Buckpasser.  Such close inbreeding is often a risky strategy, and given that Ms Foley has now been retired from breeding, it would seem that this mating was among the last attempts to kick start the family.  In terms of dosage we see that All Emotion has a profile that reads [0.40/2.00] [2-9-18-1-0].  This suggests that All Emotion may well be a versatile type, but the 800m of today’s race is probably going to be a bit short.  Even though the pedigree is in the high risk category, and probably misses a lot of what has been critical to the family’s past success, we would like to see the mare win a race or two in the country and encourage her owners to give her the chance to breed on.
