Pedigree of the Day - Za Moulin Rouge

What a great day of racing in Australia, and we have loads of well bred horses, and plenty of unfashionably bred ones as well.  We have chosen to look at a filly in Race 4 in Caulfield who is up against boom 3yo filly Miracles of Life.  Za Moulin Rouge has had only one start, but is being tested against a top quality field today.

She is a daughter of Street Cry who has been a wonderful stallion, albeit a little hit and miss in Australia.  Perhaps this is the legacy of his Mr Prospector sire line that has never fully established it in Australia.  Street Cry has produced his share of champions like Whobegotyou, Shocking, and the great Zenyatti.  He is a son of Machiavellian from a mare called Coup De Folie who is a granddaughter of Natalma, just like the dam of Danehill.  Perhaps it is this close relationship to Danehill that has affected the performance of Street Cry as breeders look to reinforce this strain.

Za Moulin Rouge is out of the mare, La Sizeranne who had six wins up to Group 2 level.  She was by another shuttle stallion in Stravinsky, but out of the wonderful mare, Tricia Ann by Zabeel.  As many would realise, this makes the family that of Grosvenor, and more recently Shadea and Lonhro.  There is no doubt that she has the heritage to be a top line performer, and no doubt connections will be aiming at longer races over the spring as her main aim.

Her pedigree interestingly features a duplication of Mr Prospector 3mx5f but it is doubtful that this will be a negative in the mating.  We also see duplications of Natalma, her dam Almahmoud, and sire Native Dancer, as well as Nasrullah and perhaps most importantly in the modern era, Hyperion who we see quite rarely these days in Australia.  Za Moulin Rouge has a dosage profile that reads [0.38/1.63] [11-5-30-0-4] which again is indicative of her performing over more ground than today’s race.  She will start at pretty long odds today, but will certainly be strong at the end of the race, and looks to have the pedigree for a big spring.
