Sydney today sees a first starter in Metaphorical, by Dylan Thomas out of Light Up The World. Dylan Thomas was a well performed shuttle stallion by Danehill who has performed solidly without being spectacular.
The dam of Metaphorical has already produced a Blue Diamond Prelude winner in World Peace who is by Danehill and a full sister to the Queensland based stallion, Conatus. Light Of The World herself won four stakes races including the Queen Of The Turf. Importantly, she is a daughter of the Bletchingly mare, Christmas Spirit who was a half sister to three stakes winners in Christmas Tree, Euphoria and Jewel of the Crown. The third dam of Metaphorical is the great Denise’s Joy making this the same family as Pentastic as well as Tuesday’s Joy, Sunday Joy and More Joyous.
The pedigree of Metaphorical is a complete outcross in six generations. Her dosage profile reads [1.11/4.54] [17-6-13-0-0] making her most likely a speedier type. What is interesting is that connections have chosen to introduce her to racing in a 1400m event which we think will be a little too far for her at this stage. In fact, we suggest that her ideal distance will be around the 1200-1600m range, so today is certainly a risk. Having said that, the family has sometimes got a little further than expected, and with this pedigree, it is quite possible that Metaphorical may have thrown to a particular influence. Nevertheless, we think this fairly unlikely, and if she is not showing any great ability over a shorter trip, it comes down to talent rather than distance.
