In contrast to last weekend's moderate Doomben 10,000, this looks to be one of the strongest Doomben Cup fields we have seen for a long time. Just about every horse in the field is a genuine contender, The result is likely to come down to luck in running and of course the rather unique Doomben track. Dosages can hopefully give us a clue as to what type of horse might win this year. We did not see the race run last year, but in the decade prior we saw a few key ranges successful. Rather surprisingly, the first range is that of the true stayer around 0.60. Sir Dragonet would fit in this range if you are a fan of him. Next is around 1.20, and here Mugatoo, Brandenburg and Shared Ambition fit best. Next we have winners around 2.10 which sees the evergreen Avilius as one that should not be discounted. We have seen a couple of winners around the 4.80 range which might well see Melody Belle a real chance to improve her Australia record. For me, I think it is probably Mugatoo that can bounce back to winning form in a wide open race.
