For those of you who have read my ramblings over a period of time, you will no doubt be aware that I am not a lover of these fillies and mares Group 1 races. In fact, apart from the Oaks, a few of the lead in races, and some of the 2yo events, allocating black type to these restricted events cheapens the process. In the US it used to be that you could get a black type classification by providing prizemoney of over $100k. If we had that in Australia, about every Saturday race in Sydney and Melbourne would qualify. This is a good reminder for those of you looking to buy yearlings that all black type on a catalogue page is not equal even if it seems to boost the price you have to pay by about the same. Anyway, enough of that and we have a very interesting race in the Coolmore. There aren't that many mares that you really could consider Group 1 quality, but it looks a pretty open event.

Past dosages probably reflect the unusual conditions of the race. Run over the odd distance of 1500m, we have seen recent winners with dosages anywhere between 1.00 and 8.50. Even though we could make a case for just about every runner, I have settled on POHUTUKAWA who looks just about the right type for the race. Oceanex and Miss Fabulass are other runners that we should probably be keeping an eye on especially for the multiples.
