By and large I am not the biggest lover of same sex races, apart from the 3yo races.  Often they are on the calendar for breeders to get Group 1 success and increase the value of their mares.  Now and again we get a top class winner, but more often than not they really do not live up to Group 1 standard.  This race is certainly in the latter scenario as it has to be described as a moderate field at best.  Anyway there will be new Group 1 winners or placegetters after the race, so it is worth a look.  We would expect a 1500m Group 1 race to be won by sprinter/miler types in general, with an odd horse that will get over some ground.  But this really doesn't seem the case as the majority of past winners have dosages well and truly in the sprinting range.  The most common range is from 3.50 to 4.50.  With Cool Passion being scratched, this gets rid of the obvious selection, and in fact we have no runners in this range unless Mizzy gets a start.  Last year's winner, Daysee Doom at 2.73 is among a couple of winners around that 3.00 mark, so she is probably a good chance of repeating her victory with others like Oregon's Day, Alassio, Noire and Jamaican Rain also in this range.  We have seen one recent winner with a dosage index of 8.50 if you like a horse like Eckstein, and another with 2.00 so we can probably make a case for horses like Princess Posh.  Overall though I think this underlines the fact that the race is not a genuine Group 1 race so we go in with little confidence.  For what they are worth, my selections are Jamaican Rain, Daysee Doom and Alassio.
